Location:

The Ranches of Y.O. Headquarters are situated approximately 42+/- miles from Kerrville, in western Kerr County, Texas.  Just south of the historic Y.O. Ranch Headquarters’ main facilities and close to the main ranch entrance, offering both convenience and seclusion.

Land & Terrain:

Each ranch is unique, featuring gently rolling Hill Country terrain, with a nice mix of open pastureland, breathtaking vistas, varied soils, and some offering expansive long-range views.  Live Oak flats and native trees are dispersed throughout the ranches providing shade, natural beauty, and habitat for wildlife and livestock.  These ranches strike an ideal balance – large enough to be productive – yet manageable in size, making them well-suited for private ownership, boutique cattle operations, or wildlife-oriented use.

Wildlife:

The Y.O. Ranch Headquarters is known for its long-standing wildlife program that introduced exotic species beginning in the 1950s. Today, the ranch supports a wide variety of exotic animals along with native Hill Country wildlife and livestock. Species may be observed across the larger ranch environment depending on pasture rotations and management practices. Native game in the area includes whitetail deer, hogs and turkey with Texas Longhorn cattle also associated with the historic ranch operation.

Community stock tanks and ponds provide surface water for livestock and wildlife with select ranches offering wet-weather creek drainage. Well water will be required for homes and must be drilled by a TDLR licensed driller in compliance with Headwaters Groundwater Conservation District regulations. Available area data indicates groundwater depths commonly range roughly 400-450± feet with aquifer groups including Edwards and Hensel.
